Position: Physical Education K-8-Part Time, 2024/2025 School Year

Type of Job: 0.5 FTE

Physical Education Teacher-K-8

Innovation Academy is looking for creative and results-driven teachers who will be responsible for instructing students in a STEM elementary school from grades K-8. The goal-oriented physical education teacher must have the ability to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health. The candidate must be culturally responsive. Overall, be skilled in the ability to create a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program. Job Responsibilities

• Understand and support Innovation Academy’s mission and vision while promoting a positive image of the school

• Ability to develop and administer Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.

• Integrate competencies, goals, and STEM objectives into lesson plans

• Ability to teach knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in physical fitness

• Ability to develop students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills while supporting a PBIS framework

• Ability to conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs

• Develop curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities using data-driven

• Prepare lesson materials, grade papers, manage the classroom, and evaluate and give feedback to students

• Deep knowledge of content standards, effective instructional strategies, and assessment driven instruction

• Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff

• Measure progress and accomplishments of students towards their academic achievements on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required

• Manage student behavior in accordance with outlined guidelines

• Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom and on the school campus

• Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served

Skills Needed

• Ability to develop and administer Physical Education classes consistent with the school’s vision and mission

• Ability to teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in physical fitness

• Develop students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills while supporting a PBIS framework

• Ability to conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs

• Highly developed oral and written communication skills

• Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with families and students

• Demonstration of continued professional development through coursework, action research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development

• Prior success with diverse learners is desirable

• Experience developing and implementing curriculum while having the ability to integrate STEM into the daily schedule

• Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and moving throughout the room

• Proven ability to maintain a safe and studious classroom environment

• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum

• Strong Google Apps for Education skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, etc.)

Qualifications/Experiences

• Minimum of Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

• Current Minnesota Physical Education teaching license

About the School: Innovation Academy is a tuition-free charter school that opened in the Fall 2020 for PreK-5 and expanding to PreK-8 the 5th year of opening. The primary focus of our school is STEM.
