Cal/OSHA is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer (M&T) (SSE) to join the team at the Cal/OSHA Enforcement Mining and Tunneling Division (M&T).
Under the direction of the Principal Safety Engineer, Mining and Tunneling with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Enforcement Branch – Mining and Tunneling (M&T), the Senior Safety Engineer, Mining and Tunneling has full supervisory and oversight responsibility of a local DIR-DOSH Mining and Tunneling District Office without detailed supervision or review. The Senior Safety Engineer (M&T) supervises, plans, schedules, directs, assigns, evaluates, and reviews the work of a multi-disciplinary staff composed of Office Support (e.g. OA, OT, and/or MST), and safety engineers, engaged in the administration and implementation of the Cal/OSHA program. The Senior Safety Engineer (M&T) is responsible for the training, upward mobility, and maintaining discipline of employees under their supervision. The Senior Safety Engineer (M&T) ensures that the office functions and operates daily in accordance with DIR-DOSH directives, rules, policy and procedures and that staff promotes DIR-DOSH Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals. The Senior Safety Engineer (M&T) sets priorities, evaluates performance of all staff and travels throughout an assigned area of the State.

Primarily the work will be in an office environment and some work will be at a field site that has the potential for exposures to safety and hazardous substances, and may involve including but not limited to:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s license and car insurance.
Ability to travel (driving for extended periods of time, commercial flights, etc.) within the defined area of the District Office and within California for the purpose of conducting field work, attending internal meetings, and attending training, including overnight to multiple night stays.
