This position offers an excellent opportunity to participate in the implementation of an Intensive Applied Behavior Analysis Short-term Day Clinic and In-Home Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) programming. Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis serve as the foundation for implementing current research-based practices and strategies to meet the needs of each client in a clinic and/or home setting.

  The Behavior technician (BT) will have excellent intervention and organizational skills, and experience in the treatment/care/education of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Mature interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills are essential in order to work effectively with staff, ancillary service providers, parents and caregivers in programming that is both comprehensive and family-centered.

The BT primarily provides direct services and support to clients with ASD or other developmental disabilities and their families. This position works under the Clinical Supervisor­­­­­, Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) and Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) in order to ensure a consistent high quality of clinical practice.

The BT shall implement programming set in place by the LBA in order to assure continuous progress towards treatment plan goals. This may include one-on-one program implementation, social and group support, adaptive skills development, and use of adaptive communication tools such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) etc). If at any point a concern is raised regarding programming and progress towards treatment goals, it is the responsibility of the BT to notify the LBA as soon as possible.

The BT shall work collaboratively with the LBA and SLP in order to assure the best possible services for the client. This will include, but is not limited to, daily monitoring of program implementation, weekly data review, daily data collection, ongoing training, and development of individual BT goals. The BT will not make changes to treatment plan goals or programming without review and permission by the LBA, SLP or Clinical Supervisor.

The BT will, at all times, present themselves in a professional manner consistent with the demands of the job (i.e., professional dress appropriate to working with children, meeting days, etc.).

Working in connection with, and under the supervision and leadership of the Clinical Supervisor and SLP and LBA, additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with internal staff, families, clients, and other professionals to provide the best treatment and support for clients.
  • Utilize effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Effectively communicate with families, other service providers, staff, university students and community members.
  • Establish and implement practices to promote the care, safety and health of each client across all program environments.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly from the Executive Director, the Director, Clinical Services, SLP, and the LBA.
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by RBT Ethics Code as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
  • Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA laws.
  • Participate in activities/events to support the growth and development of Northwest Autism Center.
  • Other duties as described by Director, Clinical Services and LBA.

Requirements

  • Certified Behavior Technician state licensure.
  • Complete required annual trainings.
  • Provide direct services and implement intervention based on individualized treatment plans.
  • Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Utilize safe and appropriate handling procedures when working with clients.
  • Track behavior progress daily through ongoing data collection and graphing.
  • Participate in daily and weekly program review opportunities with the LBA.
  • Support client in all areas related to treatment plan, including but not limited to development of toileting, feeding behavior, and family support goals.
  • Assist the LBA, LaBA and ABA interns with preparing client materials, as instructed.
  • Support client in group instruction settings.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Eligible to meet Department of Health Certified Behavior Technician requirements.
  • Background checks and clearances will be required. Fingerprinting, TB test, and /or infant/child CPR and First Aid certification may also be required, when applicable.
  • Commitment to and implementation of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings, as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to lift and carry clients
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements in the course of working with children who pose imminent danger to self or other.
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.
  • Must be physically present at the assigned job location, which may include home, school, and community placements.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites and/or client homes within the Spokane area.
