Job Description

POSITION : Full Time Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

SCHOOL: New Fairfield High School

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or willing to work on this certification while employed

Desire to work in a school setting

Prior experience helpful

GENERAL DUTIES :

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct support to students with disabilities under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The RBT implements behavior intervention plans, collects data, and supports students in developing academic, behavioral, social, and functional skills in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position plays a critical role in fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement individualized behavior intervention plans and instructional programs as designed by the BCBA and IEP team.
  • Provide direct, one-to-one and small-group behavioral support to students across school settings (classroom, lunchroom, playground, transportation, etc.).
  • Collect accurate and timely data on student behavior and skill acquisition; maintain required documentation.
  • Utilize evidence-based applied behavior analysis (ABA) strategies, including positive reinforcement and proactive behavioral supports.
  • Support students in developing communication, social, emotional regulation, and daily living skills.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families as appropriate.
  • Maintain student dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times.
  • Participate in required trainings, supervision meetings, and professional development.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, or a related field preferred.
  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or significant behavioral needs preferred.
  • Ability to follow behavior plans with fidelity and accept ongoing feedback and supervision.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the school day.
  • Ability to assist students with mobility, positioning, or personal care as required.
  • Ability to respond to behavioral situations that may require physical intervention in accordance with training and district policy.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in school buildings and may involve working in multiple settings throughout the day. The role requires flexibility, patience, and a commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
