Job Title: Outpatient Facility Medical Coder (REMOTE WA/OR)
Location: Remote (initial on-site training in Clackamas, OR)
Salary: USD $24.71 – $35.76 per hour
Type: Full-Time

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Outpatient Facility Medical Coder to join our team remotely, with initial on-site training in Clackamas, OR. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding and a commitment to excellence in coding practices and patient data management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coding & Documentation: Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to patient health records for various facility settings, including Emergency Departments, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and Inpatient records. Ensure coding aligns with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS/CPT classification systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and verify that all coded data meets quality standards and adheres to government regulations and guidelines.
  • Compliance: Abide by coding standards as set by AHIMA, CMS, and other relevant bodies. Ensure adherence to ethical coding practices and maintain confidentiality.
  • Communication: Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and procedures. Effectively communicate coding requirements and updates.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in facility coding is required. Experience within a Kaiser Apprentice program may be considered.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certifications: One of the following certifications is mandatory:
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT coding, and medical terminology.
    • Proficiency in EMR systems and computer applications.
    • Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage a significant workload under pressure.
  • Additional: Fluency in English, both oral and written. Understanding of CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding is a plus.
