The Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position in our School Psychology program. For qualified full professors, appointment as the Emma Holmes Distinguished Professorship will be considered. This full-time, academic year (9-month) position will begin August 19, 2026. 

Description  

The University of Iowa's School Psychology program is a PhD program with an inclusive EdS degree, as well as a stand-alone EdS degree. The successful candidate will be an important contributor to the growth of these graduate programs. Candidates will benefit from growing opportunities for unique scholarly collaborations and potential support found in our Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health, and across the college. We are seeking candidates with an established program of research and teaching experience aligned with school psychology standards set by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).  Teaching opportunities will be possible in our Ph.D. and Ed.S. programs, as well as our newly established undergraduate major, Counseling and Behavioral Health Services (CBHS). The preferred candidate will have a strong commitment to a scientist-practitioner philosophy with a systems-based perspective. 

In addition to contributing to our graduate and undergraduate programs, the successful candidate will:





  • Serve as a core faculty member in the School Psychology program.





  • Teach courses in School Psychology and in areas consistent with the candidate’s interests and program and departmental needs.





  • Seek and administer external grants for research, training, and service.





  • Advise graduate students at the EdS and PhD level, including supervising doctoral dissertations.

About the School Psychology Program

The University of Iowa 's School Psychology program is a doctoral program with an inclusive EdS degree and a stand alone EdS degree. The School Psychology program trains health service psychologists to be outstanding, ethical, and multiculturally competent scientist-practitioners who promote psychology as a profession for the betterment of the human condition. We strive to address the academic, developmental, behavioral, and mental health needs of the students we serve, from prevention to intervention. Currently, the School Psychology program has undergone a site visit for accreditation on contingency with the American Psychological Association. Given our belief that the profession of psychology is constantly changing to meet human needs, our faculty and students represent a variety of backgrounds and interests and serve an array of communities.

Education Requirement:



  • Prospective candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in school, counseling, or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program by August of 2026.

Required Qualifications:





  • Established record or evidence of strong potential in scholarship relevant to applied school psychology.





  • Potential for securing external funds for research, training, and program development.





  • Experience in K-12 settings.





  • Ability to teach, advise, and mentor graduate students in research and practice.





  • Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist and/or credentialed (or credential-eligible) as a school psychologist. 


Desirable Qualifications:





  • Established record of obtaining external funding.





  • Experience in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. 





  • Evidence or promise of excellent teaching skills at the graduate level, including graduate student advising.





  • Research area related to children, adolescents, and young adults. 





  • Experience contributing to a welcoming and respectful academic environment. 





  • Doctorate in school psychology from an APA-accredited program. 





  • Credentialed or eligible for credentialing as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).
