Job Description

CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in math. A successful candidate must teach five sections of math and science, serve as a middle school advisor, and participate in all Experiential Education Seminars. This position reports directly to the Lower and Middle School Director and/or Assistant Division Director and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program.

The position’s preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree (preferred) in the field of math
  • Experience teaching courses from 6th through 9th grades
  • Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology
  • Experience in teaching English Language Learners (ELL), particularly international students

The Middle/Upper School Math Teacher will:

  • Teach up to five sections of upper level middle school math, which could include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry and 8th grade science
  • Serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students
  • Support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning.
  • Serve as an instructor in our signature experiential learning opportunities both on campus and away throughout the year, which sometimes require travel
  • Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
  • Be able to collaborate effectively and facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
  • Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner
  • Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
  • Provide regular and valuable student feedback and maintain assessment records
  • Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
  • Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
  • Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
  • Perform various student supervisory duties
  • Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways
