Position: Entry-Level Firefighter/EMT
Monthly Salary: $6,483.26

Benefits:

100% medical coverage for employee and 95% for dependents (increasing to 100% in 2026)
100% dental coverage for employee and dependents
Deferred Compensation employer contribution of 4.5% of base wage
$50 per month contribution to VEBA/HRA
Work Schedule: 2,532 hours annually; 48/144 with Debit Days

Vashon Island Fire & Rescue (VIFR) is creating an eligibility list for the January 2025 Recruit Academy.

Applicants must complete the FireTEAM test through the National Testing Network (all sections) and the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within the past year or by October 1, 2024. A VIFR application must also be completed.

Job Requirements:
Age: 21
U.S. Citizen: Yes
High School Grad/GED: Yes
Valid Washington State Driver's License: Required
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Vision: Must meet the current minimum LEOFF II Firefighter Medical Standards
College: Not required but encouraged
Certification Requirements:
Washington State Emergency Medical Technician certification is required within one year of hire.
IFSAC Firefighter I and II certifications are required within one year of hire.
VIFR is a member of the South King County Fire Training Consortium. Firefighter I, II, and EMT training will be provided through the SKCFTC Recruit Academy, which must be successfully completed.

Veteran's Preference:
Applicants requesting Veteran's Preference Points (5) must present a DD-214 at the time of the interview.

Disqualifiers:
Criminal Activity: Candidates must pass a station and national criminal history background check prior to employment.
Drug Use: Candidates must pass a drug screening prior to employment.
Employment Disqualifiers: Providing false or misleading information, cheating during testing, or failing any part of the evaluation process will result in disqualification.
Additional Information:
Any unfavorable results from the oral board panel, background check, psychological evaluation, medical examination, or Chiefs' interview will result in disqualification.
