Job Classification: Entry-Level Firefighter/EMT
King County Fire District #2 (KCFD2) is currently establishing a hiring list for Entry-Level Firefighter/EMT positions. To be considered, all candidates must complete the FireTEAM exam through National Testing Network (NTN) before August 22, 2024.
Candidates are required to complete the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA), both accessible through their NTN account. It is recommended that these be completed promptly to avoid delays in processing.
Candidates must have a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) obtained between August 23, 2023, and August 22, 2024.
Returning candidates who have previously applied with KCFD#2 should contact NTN to ensure their scores are included on the current list.
Base Salary Information (2024 Rates):
Probationary Firefighter: $6,757.09
Third Class Firefighter: $8,205.03
Second Class Firefighter: $8,687.68
First Class Firefighter: $9,652.98

Department Overview:
King County Fire District #2 covers 16.04 square miles of developed land and 8.45 miles of coastline. The district borders Seattle, Tukwila, Sea-Tac, Des Moines, and Puget Sound. KCFD2 operates four fire stations, providing fire protection and emergency services to Burien, Normandy Park, and the North Highline community in unincorporated King County. Burien is a vibrant city known for its diversity, arts, culture, and environmental sustainability. KCFD2 is a regional resource for South King County, frequently partnering with surrounding fire departments. An InterLocal Agreement with North Highline Fire District #11 (NHFD) consolidates fire and emergency medical services, improving response times and operational efficiency.
KCFD2's headquarters station is staffed with a three-person engine, a two-person aid car, and a Battalion Chief, with three additional stations each staffed with a three-person engine. In 2023, KCFD2 responded to 12,549 service calls.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; college preferred
Certification: Academy certification not required prior to conditional offer
Driver's License: Valid Washington State driver's license required before appointment

Experience:
KCFD2 Volunteers: KCFD2 Volunteers receive a 5% bonus to their overall NTN Score. Volunteers should notify Christina Parker of their status after testing.
Veterans: Veterans with honorable service records will receive additional points:
10% for veterans who served during a period of war or in armed conflict
5% for veterans who did not serve during a period of war or in armed conflict
To receive these points, veterans must upload their DD214, NGB Form 22, or equivalent documentation to their NTN account by August 22, 2024.

Hiring List Determination:
Placement on the hiring list is based on weighted examination scores:
Written Test: 40% (including Work Attitude Questionnaire, Human Relations, Mechanical, Math, Reading)
Oral Board: 30%
Chief Interview: 30%
Conditional offers of employment are contingent on successful completion of:
Background investigation (criminal history and driving record)
Medical examination and drug screening
Psychological assessment
