Position Summary:

The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) at Athena Medtech is a pivotal member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care within our fast-paced Emergency Department. This role demands exceptional clinical judgment, rapid assessment capabilities, and the ability to formulate and implement precise nursing diagnoses and interventions. The ER RN is crucial in identifying life-threatening conditions, initiating immediate treatment, and ensuring comprehensive and accurate documentation. This position requires a calm demeanor under pressure, strong critical thinking skills, and an unwavering commitment to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care in emergent situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Triage & Assessment: Triage patients effectively according to acuity using established protocols (e.g., Emergency Severity Index - ESI system) to prioritize care. Perform rapid, comprehensive assessments to identify critical conditions and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Emergency Care Management: Rapidly stabilize, manage, and monitor critically ill or injured patients across all age groups. Administer medications, initiate IV access, perform wound management, and assist physicians with various emergency procedures.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate seamlessly with physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and a multidisciplinary team to coordinate holistic patient care. Educate patients and their families thoroughly on diagnoses, treatment plans, and essential follow-up care instructions.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Accurately and thoroughly document all patient care activities, assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and best practice guidelines.
  • Operational Proficiency: Operate and troubleshoot specialized emergency equipment, including but not limited to defibrillators, ventilators, and cardiac monitors. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
  • Team Participation: Actively participate in trauma and code teams as required, demonstrating strong teamwork and leadership in critical situations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)).
  • Licensure & Certifications:
    • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona (AZ) is required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required.
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification preferred.
    • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an acute care or emergency department setting preferred.
    • New graduates who have completed relevant clinical rotations or residency programs may be considered.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills for effective patient, family, and team interactions.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
    • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and professionalism during stressful events.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials.
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, bending, and pushing.
  • This role requires flexibility for shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet departmental needs.
