Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community is Seeking a Director of Development!

SUMMARY

Develops, organizes, coordinates and directs fundraising programs, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in fund development, marketing, community relations or some other related field with four or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and implements TLRC fundraising strategies and community relations plans, policies and procedures.
Works with the TLRC Public Relations Director on developing promotional materials, including print, electronic, social media, special events and direct mail to fulfill those aspects of the fundraising objectives.
Maintains regular contact with donors in the database as well as work to enlarge the donor database.
Works with a grant writer and other foundations to identify sources of funding for research, community service or other identified needs of TLRC projects.
Knowledge of how to write gift annuities and other types of planned and deferred giving instruments, e.g., charitable trusts, bargain sales, insurance gifts.
Informs potential contributors of designated needs of TLRC and encourages individuals, corporations and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trust, donations of gifts-in-kind or bequests.
Develops relationships with media representatives and community leaders to create opportunities for keeping TLRC and its services in front of public and other organizations.
Advises management and staff of fundraising events and activities.
Participates in TLRC internal committees as well as committees of the Board of Trustees as designated by the CEO.
Represents TLRC at professional, allied health and community organizations, promoting positive public relations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Foundation department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, ratios, discounts, interest, proportions percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
