Job Description and Duties

This position is Hybrid and eligible for telework up to three (3) days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under the general guidance of the Executive Director (ED), the Digital Media and Marketing Specialist (DMS) is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing print and digital communications initiatives for CAPIAA. In partnership with the Manager of Communication and External Affairs, the DMS will handle day-to-day tasks including design, visual communications, digital/social media, video production, event-based media, and other outreach efforts aligned with CAPIAA’s goals. This role operates at a professional and technical public relations level, utilizing creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking to enhance CAPIAA’s visibility and impact. The DMS will also develop comprehensive communication strategies for API Equity Budget grantees, working closely with various stakeholders to create a unified communication plan and statewide toolkits. This position requires crafting engaging messaging to build stakeholder engagement, boost public awareness, and encourage community participation.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard marketing strategies, tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
  • Expertise in analyzing marketing data to inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and outreach, with a passion for building relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook.
  • Mission-driven, highly organized, creative, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Multilingual skills representing the AAPIA language.
  • Must be familiar with photo and editing software, including but not limited to: Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, CapCut, or other social media video editing software.
  • Must be familiar with email marketing platforms, including but not limited to: Wordpress, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or other email marketing platforms.
  • Must be familiar with social media platforms, including but not limited to: Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
