THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated Corrections Counselor 2 to join their treatment team. By combining social work and counseling in the criminal justice system, you will have the chance to make a difference in the lives of inmates and help guide them towards rehabilitation and change. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Counselor 2, you will coordinate the placement and transportation of individuals into parole violator centers. You will review board actions and use Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) to research open charges, warrants, and detainers, as well as review medical and mental health records to determine proper violator placement. This role requires knowledge of the referral process to thoroughly analyze data and effectively communicate recommendations that support offender rehabilitation. In addition, you will manage the wait list for parole violators, process transfer petitions, assist with placement issues, and update State Correctional Institution (SCI) facility profiles, including open bed availability.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Corrections Counselor 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.


Special Requirements:

  • You must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
