Job Description

Summary

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Associate for a non-laboratory research position. The candidate will work with Melanie Jeske, PhD on sociological studies related to the ethical and social implications of emerging technologies, social studies of biotechnologies, chronic health conditions, lay expertise, reproductive health, and bioethics. 

 

In addition to supporting the Center’s robust research program, the Clinical Research Associate will have the opportunity to participate in professional and academic development sessions hosted by the Center. Such development opportunities include speaker series, grand rounds and peer mentorship. Job Duties

  • Provide research support for ongoing projects, including organizing project files, scheduling project activities and meetings, taking meeting minutes, and coordinating with co-investigators, collaborators, and project personnel across multiple sites to move projects forward
  • Coordinate recruitment, enrollment and data collection for study participants
  • Contribute to presentation preparation, such as pulling data and drafting slides
  • Prepare presentations for internal and academic meetings
  • Oversee data management and compliance with research regulations (such as human subjects protections)
  • Maintain project databases, tracking and reporting on project components to ensure timelines are adhered to and are deadlines met
  • Maintain manuals of procedures for projects and assist with project protocol development and management
  • Conduct comprehensive literature searches in the areas of medical sociology, science and technology studies, bioethics, health equity, and biomedical science literatures
  • Collect research data from study participants (e.g., administering interview protocols and surveys)
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative research coordination and management, for example, contributing to instrument development and refinement, data cleaning, and quality control oversight, and creating data visualizations
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Assist with document preparation and references for publications 
  • Assist with grant proposals and reporting
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in sociology, anthropology, science and technology studies, bioethics, interdisciplinary social sciences, law, or public health.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies and data analysis software programs (e.g., MAXQDA, Dedoose, nVivo, SPSS, STATA).
  • Strong interest in sociology, bioethics, science and medicine, and health.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and institutions and participate on teams, while working independently.
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including one-on-one interactions as well as in groups.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand workflow processes, and troubleshoot emergent issues.
