Job Description:

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Coach for Cross Country/Track and Field. This position will work under the direction of the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country to assist in the daily operations and administrative functions for the Division I men's and women's track/field and cross country programs with a commitment to adhering to university, Big 12 Conference and NCAA policies.

• Serve in a countable coach capacity and effectively teach, mentor and coach to develop successful and well-rounded student-athletes;
• Assist with identifying and successfully recruiting for distance running events and retaining academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes;
• Assist with campus recruiting functions for all areas;
• Help with pre-meet and race-day operations;
• Assist with coordination of facility needs, practice calendars, competition schedules, and administrative projects;
• Assist with monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes;
• Contribute to and enhance a competitive athletic experience;
• Establish and maintain an environment conducive to the welfare and academic success of the student-athletes;
• Establish and maintain effective interactions with the students, colleagues, university community, alumni, media and the public;
• Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Big 12 Conference, andNCAA.

This position requires strong knowledge of distance running and steeplechase, an excellent work ethic along with exceptional motivational, teaching/coaching and communication skills. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. Requires the ability to travel extensively including overnight stays for recruiting and competitions.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree.

Experience coaching or competing in cross country and/or track and field distance events at a highly competitive level (post high school).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience coaching NCAA Division I cross country and track & field.

Experience coaching both men and women athletes in Cross Country, Steeplechase and Middle Distance.

Demonstrated ability to recruit highly skilled studentathletes, or strong international recruiting connections.

Experience hosting meets.
